AI Workloads Are Fundamentally Changing the Role of Network Infrastructure

Julian Skeels, Digital Technologies Officer at Expereo, stated that in the AI era, speed alone is not sufficient, and the actual critical priority for networks is 'certainty.'
Skeels noted that AI workloads are distributed, continuous, and extremely sensitive to latency, saying, "Inference, monitoring, data fetching, and correction processes never stop. This changes the role of the network. In the AI world, network connectivity essentially becomes a system dependency. The moment network performance drops, application performance instantly drops as well."

It was reported that many Chief Information Officers (CIOs) are grappling with a challenge Skeels defines as 'connectivity everywhere, visibility nowhere.' Hybrid networks, multi-cloud environments, multiple providers, and different management panels are said to increase the operational burden.
Julian Skeels emphasized that an AI-ready network must make data movement deterministic, stating, "It's not just about being fast; it's important that it is predictable, observable, manageable, and resilient, and that it can do all this under constant change."

Skeels said that when he joined Expereo last year, he observed that the global connectivity sector had long resisted a true digital transformation. He relayed that customers still experience connectivity services as slow, manual, non-transparent, and fragmented across dozens of different points.
This situation becomes even more critical, especially considering the massive investments companies like Nvidia are making in AI infrastructure and the explosion in demand for AI processing power. Similarly, investments in industrial AI solutions like CVector are also increasing this infrastructure need.
This shift in the sector is directly affecting not only major technology companies but also in-store AI evaluations in traditional sectors like retail and even AI applications in unexpected areas like firefighting.
