Transition to Google Gemini Made Easier: Old Chats Can Be Migrated

AI Chat Histories Becoming Portable

Tech giant Google is working on a significant user experience improvement for its AI assistant Gemini. Thanks to a new feature currently in testing, users may soon be able to transfer their chat histories from rival platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, or Microsoft Copilot into Gemini.

"Import" Option Being Tested

According to information discovered by Alexey Shabanov from TestingCatalog, a new option labeled "Import AI Chats" is being tested in Gemini's extended menu. When this feature becomes active, users are expected to be able to upload chat files downloaded from other platforms into Gemini. It is not yet clear which formats the feature will support or which chatbots it will be compatible with.

Image Quality Improvements and New Tools

Among other innovations Google is testing is an enhancement to the quality of images generated with Gemini. Plans include adding 2K and 4K resolution options for images that can currently be downloaded at "full quality." These options are expected to be labeled as "Best for sharing" and "Best for print."

Additionally, a new tool called "Similarity" is also in the testing phase. While its exact function is not yet clear, in its current state it has been observed to redirect to Gemini's video verification feature. There is speculation that Google may be developing a feature parallel to its existing similarity tool on YouTube, which allows users to scan for and request the removal of videos that use their face or voice. There is no official statement on this matter yet.

Strategy to Facilitate Cross-Platform Switching

Google's move is interpreted as a strategic step to attract more users in the AI assistant market. Allowing users to switch platforms without losing their existing chat history is seen as a factor that will significantly reduce the switching cost. The company had previously integrated Gemini into many of its products like Android, Chrome, Photos, and Workspace, and had upgraded Gemini Advanced to the "Gemini 1.5 Pro" language model.

All the mentioned features have not yet been released for general use. It remains uncertain when and to what extent these innovations, currently in testing, will reach users. The technology sector continues to closely monitor how this competition in the AI field will impact the user experience.
