Miro Announces MCP Server That Integrates AI Coding Tools with Visual Collaboration

A Bridge Connecting Visual and Coding Worlds

Miro has announced a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server on its platform, which it describes as an AI-powered innovation workspace for teams. Developed in collaboration with Anthropic, AWS, GitHub, Google, and Windsurf, this server provides a bidirectional integration between Miro's visual workspace and AI coding environments. The goal is to help teams build the right products faster.

Shared Context, Reliable AI Outputs

While companies recognize AI's potential to accelerate work, uncertainties persist about how to integrate this technology into real workflows and decision-making processes. Without a shared context, AI outputs are described as fragmented, difficult to trust, and costly to verify. Miro's MCP server aims to connect the visual context teams create in Miro to AI assistants across the enterprise, ensuring outputs are grounded in real architectures and decisions.

Industry Reactions and Collaborations

Miro's Chief Product and Technology Officer, Jeff Chow, stated that the cross-functional context teams build in Miro is critical for scaling AI value. GitHub's Vice President of Product, Simina Pasat, emphasized that with the Miro integration, engineering teams can better access architecture diagrams and design decisions without leaving their workflows.

Core Use Cases

With this launch, Miro highlights two core use cases:

  • Automated Code Visualization: Teams will be able to generate system architecture diagrams and detailed documentation directly from codebases within AI coding tools. This will make it easier for new project members or teams to understand the existing code structure.
  • Context-Aware Code Generation: Product requirement documents, design specifications, and user research created on the Miro canvas can be fed as input into the AI-assisted code development process. This enables code generation that understands the existing system and aims to hit the target with fewer revisions.

Miro's MCP server connects with popular AI coding platforms such as Claude Code, AWS Kiro, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, Cursor, and Replit. The server is designed to operate in compliance with Miro's enterprise security controls and governance policies.

This development moves beyond simple AI integration in software development processes, placing interdisciplinary collaboration and context transfer at the center. Similarly, NASA's use of AI on the Perseverance rover had also demonstrated the importance of context awareness and autonomous decision-making in complex systems.
