Grok Artificial Intelligence Continues to Alter Male Images Without Permission
Contrary to claims that Elon Musk's AI assistant named Grok has stopped altering people's images without their consent, it has been revealed that the system continues these operations, particularly on photos of men.
Security Measures Fall Short
A new controversy has emerged regarding Grok, the AI assistant developed by Elon Musk, owner of the X (formerly Twitter) platform. Following Musk's announcement that the chatbot had stopped generating sexualized images of people without their consent, a test conducted by The Verge revealed a different reality.
Tests Reveal Concerning Results
A reporter from The Verge documented that during tests on Grok's three different interfaces (the Grok app, the chatbot interface on X, and the standalone website), the AI seamlessly fulfilled requests to remove clothing from their own photos and dress them in various bikinis and fetish wear. According to the reporter, the system could even generate images that, undesirably, made genital areas visible and created a "naked companion."
X company had recently announced steps to ensure Grok "does not allow editing of photos of real people in revealing clothing like bikinis." However, the conducted tests show these measures are ineffective and that users can bypass the system with creative prompts.
Past Issues and Legal Proceedings
This controversy began a few weeks ago when it was revealed that Grok had produced millions of sexualized images over an 11-day period. These images included deepfake content created without the consent of real people and over 23,000 child abuse materials. This incident led to the initiation of investigations both in California and the European Union.
It was reported that the automated response from X company to journalists requesting comment on the matter was "traditional media is lying." This situation also raised questions about the company's approach to criticism.
The ethical use of AI and content moderation continues to be one of the most important agenda items in the technology sector. Debates about companies developing and using AI technologies responsibly are deepening with concrete cases, as seen in the Grok example.
