Google's Android for PC Interface Leaked for the First Time

Android's Desktop Journey Becomes Clearer with First Images

The first images of the Android operating system interface developed by tech giant Google for computers have surfaced in the company's own bug tracking system. It was known that Google, which announced a desktop interface alongside Android 16 last summer, was leveraging Samsung DeX technology. The leaked screen recordings offer the first concrete traces of the project codenamed 'Aluminium OS'.

Details Leaked from a Bug Report

The bug report, spotted by 9to5Google and now with restricted access, was related to Chrome browser's incognito tab feature. It was stated that two screen recordings added to the report were taken from an HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook. The recordings clearly show the phrase 'Android 16' on a page displaying operating system information. Furthermore, the OS section contains the abbreviation 'ALOS' and a corresponding build number.

Merger of ChromeOS and Android Design

The leaked interface combines the clean layout of ChromeOS with familiar Android elements. An Android-style taskbar at the bottom of the screen and a status bar with battery and Wi-Fi indicators at the top are noticeable. The screen recordings also show windowed applications, a split-screen feature, and a version of the Chrome browser with an extension button found in the desktop version. The Google Play Store is also observed to be present in the interface.

Google's moves in the fields of artificial intelligence and operating systems have recently gained momentum. The company recently expanded the AI Mode in Google Search and launched the Google AI Plus subscription service in the US. Additionally, there is a focus on practical AI tools like NotebookLM, which works with users' own documents.

Official Statement Awaited

Google has not yet made an official statement regarding these leaked images. Users are expected to see the details of this desktop experience more clearly with the future updates of Android 16. This development provides important clues about Google's strategy in the computer market during a period where the boundaries between operating systems continue to blur. A similar consolidation movement in the technology sector can also be observed in different fields, as in the example of Capital One acquiring Brex in the finance sector.
