Market data indicates that Gemini still trails its largest competitor, OpenAI's ChatGPT, which is estimated to have approximately 810 million monthly active users by the end of 2025. Meta AI ranks third with around 500 million users.
The Impact of Gemini 3
The user growth followed closely after the launch of Gemini 3, which Google introduced as its most advanced model. Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated that this launch was a "positive driver" for the company's growth. Pichai noted that ongoing investments would sustain this momentum.
Pricing Strategy and Infrastructure Investments
To expand its user base, Google launched a more affordable plan called Google AI Plus, priced at $7.99 per month. The plan is expected to support growth by appealing to budget-conscious users.
The company also unveiled its next-generation TPU AI accelerator chip, named Ironwood, to compete with Nvidia in strengthening its AI infrastructure. This move is seen as part of Google's goals for hardware independence and performance improvement.
