Alexa+ Expands to All US Users, Prime Members Get It Free
February 4, 2026 – Amazon has officially rolled out its significantly upgraded AI assistant, Alexa+, to all users across the United States. This expansion makes the advanced artificial intelligence service available to a broader audience, with a key benefit being its inclusion at no extra charge for Amazon Prime members.
For individuals who are not Amazon Prime subscribers, the company has introduced a new free tier. This introductory offering allows non-Prime members to experience the capabilities of Alexa+ through a text-based chat interface accessible via Alexa.com and the Alexa app. While providing a taste of the AI's power, this free tier comes with usage limitations, according to Engadget.
Alexa+ represents a substantial leap forward for Amazon's voice assistant technology, incorporating generative AI to offer more sophisticated and natural interactions. Initially available through an early access program since last year, the nationwide launch incorporates user feedback gathered during that period. Daniel Rausch, Vice President of Alexa and Echo at Amazon, stated that Alexa+ is now a core Prime benefit, accessible through voice commands, web browsers, and the dedicated Alexa app.
The pricing structure for Alexa+ positions it as a premium service for those outside the Prime ecosystem. Standalone subscriptions for Alexa+ are priced at $19.99 per month. Given that an Amazon Prime membership costs $15 per month, the company is strategically incentivizing users to bundle the advanced AI assistant with their existing Prime benefits. Amazon continues to offer a 30-day free trial of Prime for first-time customers, further encouraging adoption.
Users can begin utilizing Alexa+ by issuing a voice command, such as "Alexa, upgrade to Alexa+" on their Alexa-enabled devices, or by visiting Alexa.com and signing into their Amazon account. The service is designed to work seamlessly across various Amazon platforms. TechCrunch reports that the AI feature is now accessible to all U.S. customers as of Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
The rollout signifies Amazon's commitment to enhancing its AI offerings and integrating them more deeply into its product and service ecosystem. The company has indicated that Alexa+ will continue to receive ongoing improvements and feature updates, suggesting a dynamic and evolving AI assistant experience for its users.
