One example highlighting the severity of the issue emerged in a child health assessment report published in the US. It was reported that the document contained references, generated by AI, that were non-existent and nonsensical. This situation exposed the potentially misleading role of AI in academic and official documents.

Academic publishers have begun taking measures to address this AI-related problem. Leading conferences and journals in the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence are increasing the number of reviewers to ensure each paper is examined by multiple people.
